So I’ve been hard at work on a new game project which I’ll announce in a couple of days probably, but for the moment I’m still working on just reproducing Lost Dog with XNA.
A big part of Lost Dog (it being a Visual NOVEL) is that there is a lot of text and where there is text in gaming there are fonts and where there are fonts there are copyright laws.
Luckily, I made my own font for Lost Dog originally, so it’s just a matter of making it an actual TrueType Font (the kind of fonts which Windows uses).
Here’s the thing:

It’s serious business! I’ve basically got it down to a good rhythm now after a couple of days (yes, I said DAYS) and this font isn’t even close to finished. Let me say that again: There’s a lot that goes into making a font!
I used to be so annoyed when I found a font and it was like “Pay $10.” Now, I’m like, “Oh! That person wants me to pay $10 for the pills they have to take now to keep the nightmares away! I get it!”
Because if your brain can see this:

And understand that it’s ACTUALLY this:

Then you’ve gone some kind of wonderful insane, but insane nonetheless.
So that’s where I’m at. I’m roughly half way to converting my old pixel font to this new TrueType version of it. One nice thing about it is that once it’s done I’ll be able to use this font for every game I make with XNA and it will be 100% mine. Another nice thing is that any artwork that I make for the game can use the ACTUAL font as well. So there’s that.
Anyway it’s 1:30 in the morning and I need to sleep before I have to run off to work to get my copy of LA Noire. According to my latest “I’m checking every five minutes” check, my copy is in Arizona because a flight delay occurred due to mechanical reasons - MY EYE! My copy better show up tomorrow or…
Ah who am I kidding? I’ve got a show after work anyway. Take your time sweet sweet game. Until then!
